| Severe Climate and Blessings of Nature |
In Tomiya, people and nature openly coexist. Nestled in the southern foothills of the Kurokawa district in the center of Miyagi Prefecture, Tomiya differs greatly in climate from the other areas north of it because of a complicated, bird-shaped landscape. That is, the weather tends to be severe and the temperature differs about 3 on an average between the south and the north of the town's border. It is cool and bearable in the summer but cold and snowy in winter. The severe winter comes to a close as the warm spring wind starts blowing. Nanatsu-mori Forest turns to green as it watches over the town, and people come outside and gather in park areas. The change of season is eagerly awaited by all.

| Our Hometown, Shaped by Humans and Nature |
Tomiya is a bountiful town where you can enjoy the unspoilt nature and well developed space. The river flowing from the hills brings water to the surrounding fields and enriches the people's livelihood. Nanatsumori Forest provides a calm and gentle environment for living. Tomiya, which has been developing as a park city, has many parks, nature trails, and places of recreation areas. Such spots are indispensable to the people living in the area.
People living here may not be so conscious of the rich natural environment or the warm feeling of fellowship with others, but they may realize it once they leave the town. Tomiya is a hometown people want to go home to. |
