Tomiya, once flourishing as a post station on the Ohshu Trail, was organized as a town in April, 1963 and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2003. The town, with a population of only about 5,000 at the time of organization, has been growing ever since. With the ever increasing number of homes, the urban infrastructure being upgraded, and living facilities being developed, Tomiya now has a population of more than 40,000. I sincerely appreciate and respect your advice that reflects your love for your home town and your passion for building the community, all of which has contributed to the town's current prosperity. In response to social changes, Tomiya has also been undergoing great change. It will continue to nurture our special "comfortable home" atmosphere. With our basic philosophy of the "creation of a prosperous hometown", we will strive to develop our town in a way that takes advantage of convenience yet maintains a harmonious balance with nature. In this way, all citizens can live in peace and prosperity. The 40th anniversary of our town has prompted us to improve our administrative services and to promote urban renovation. We ask you to read this "City Directory" to gain a better understanding our town, and hope that your continued support will assist in the further development of the town.
